Why use the word ‘shun?’

CNN has just reported that Camilla has decided not to attend the Diana memorial on Friday. The front page of CNN calls this article ‘Camilla shuns the Diana memorial’, but yet the actual article is called ‘Camilla to stay away from Diana memorial’.

I don’t understand the use of the word ‘shun’. Why not simply state that she has decided not to attend? Shun makes it sound negative, like she’s slighting Diana and her memory. It makes it sound cowardly.

Camilla can’t win either way, can she?

How many pictures of mountains and food dishes does it take?

You know, sometimes I have a dream. I don’t speak of this dream very often. But it still exists. Whenever I look at the Blogger welcome screen, I get a tinge of hope.  Maybe, just maybe, today will be my day.

But it never is.

My dream? I want to be chosen as a ‘Blog of Note.’

I know it may sound silly. But somewhere deep in my heart I feel that I will beat the odds. Without resorting to posting photos of a questionable food dish or having to ascend some sort of mountain. Or writing about my passionate interest in GSM powered GPS mobile trackers. I’ve been holding off on writing about bent objects and renewable energy. But now people have beat me to it. And look where they are today!

Surely Marilyn’s Royal Blog fits into those odd, niche categories? Doesn’t it?

Is my blog not weird enough? Ask the people around me, they’ll tell you it’s weird!

Why lusting for fame and glory might be futile..

Ok, I have to get something off of my chest.

When I started Marilyn’s Royal Blog, I did it because I love royalty I also found that I loved writing too. Deep down inside I hoped that it would lead to something more than just blogging – that it could lead to writing for newspapers, magazines and maybe even the holy grail of all ambitions, Majesty Magazine.

I have had some close calls with getting wider notice – I’ve been interviewed for the Wall Street Journal, the LA Times and the Baltimore Sun. I’m not saying this to brag. It’s great and wonderful to have these publications contact me – very flattering. But I’m finding that it’s a waste of time. Because, despite being interviewed by these places, they’ve never used anything I’ve said! A few days ago I had a TV station in Toronto ask me to appear on a show to discuss the royal family. All things were a go and then they called to say they didn’t need me.

Why do I bother agreeing to these things? Why am I wasting my time? Am I a sucker for punishment?

Once again, back to obscurity I go!
