Running the Monarchy is actually cheaper than running a presidential system. Why do republicans get upset about the money that is spent on the Monarchy? I have never heard of a republic, where the president would pay for the cost he is producing. Take France, with about the same seize in population. Nicolas Sarkozy costs the French taxpayer 50% more than the Queen costs a British taxpayer.

And what did Sarkozy do when he come to power last year: He granted himself a 70% payrise. Considering the inflation rate the Queen’s 3% budget rise is actually a loss.
We don’t want t mention the cost of electoral campaigns that don’t come cheap. This year’s US primaries cost $ 1 billion. With that money you could run the British Monarchy more then 10 years. And don’t say these were all donations. They are tax deductable and in the end it is the taxpayer who pays the bill for the candidates.

Mostly it’s a threat that awesome, ridiculous, terrifying fashion has occurred or will at any given moment. It’s important to be on one’s guard for such things!
